Responding to the hate crime murder of young Matthew Shepard, acclaimed conductor and composer Craig Hella Johnson created a compassionate and ultimately hopeful musical response. This fusion oratorio incorporates a
variety of musical styles into a unified whole with settings of soulful texts by poets including Hildegard of Bingen, Lesléa Newman, Rumi, as well as passages from Matt’s personal journal, newspaper reports, and more.

To commemorate Bruckner’s 200th birthday, we’ll perform his monumental
Te Deum for chorus and orchestra, which premiered in this very hall in 1886. The program also includes Schubert’s energetic Magnificat and Elgar’s heartfelt The Music Makers.

Epic and majestic, A Sea Symphony takes full chorus and orchestra on a voyage of the soul, set to words of Walt Whitman. Joe Miller, Professor of Conducting and Director of Choral Studies at Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, returns to BCI to lead this Vaughan Williams program, which also includes the Five Mystical Songs.

Sing Verdi’s towering choral masterpiece with full orchestra in the majestic Teatro Verdi, one of Florence’s most historic theaters (located on Via Giuseppe Verdi itself, just steps from the Piazza di Santa Croce).
